Interesting tidbit: Johann Wolfgang (the author of Faust) had an absurd fasicination with cliffs. Ultimately, this led to his downfall. On the last day of his life, while fufilling his acrophillic fantasies, his foot got caught in a nook. He tried to tear it out, but instead, plummeted to his death.

I guess it all goes to show: Goethe pried before a fall.
